Prison Department of Punjab comes under Department of Home affairs and Justice. The Headquarter of Prison Department is situated in Chandigarh. There are seven Central Jails in Punjab located at Amritsar, Patiala, Bathinda, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar and Ludhiana. Besides this, there are six District Jails at Nabha, Sangrur, Faridkot, Kapurthala, Ropar, and Hoshiarpur. We also have two Open air Jails at Nabha & Kapurthala and one Women's Jail at Ludhiana. For the young offenders, we have a Borstal Jail at Ludhiana. At tehsil level, we have Sub Jails located at Fazilka, Moga, Mukatsar, Patti, Barnala, Malerkotla, Phagwara, Dasuya and Pathankot.
